September 9, 2015. Washington, D.C. — In what is the largest sale of territory rights in its history, Zippy Shell announced today the rights for all of Arizona have been purchased. This is the first time a master development agreement has been struck for an entire state, and Zippy Shell anticipates multiple markets being launched in the next 24 months. Starting with Phoenix Metro in the fall, Zippy Shell anticipates the entire state being open for business in about 2 years.
“We are excited to bring the unique solution of Zippy Shell to Arizona because of all the possibilities here,” said Berekk Blackwell, President & CEO of Zippy Shell of Arizona. “Arizona is constantly growing and is a great opportunity for Zippy Shell.”
The Zippy Shell of Arizona management team brings extensive franchising experience to Zippy Shell. Kevin Blackwell founded Kahala Corp, an International Franchisor of quick service brands. At the time Mr. Blackwell sold his interest in Kahala, the company had over 10 brands including Cold Stone Creamery, Taco Time, Samurai Sam’s and had grown to over 3,000 units operating in 23 countries. As longtime residents of Arizona, the Blackwells have a strong understanding of the market, and made a strategic decision to purchase the rights to Zippy Shell for the entire state of Arizona.
“Arizona is an exciting territory for Zippy Shell as we continue to expand our nationwide coverage. We’re thrilled to partner with such a great group to develop Zippy Shell throughout the state. Their extensive franchising background will help them launch and build the business,” said Rick Del Sontro, CEO of Zippy Shell. “We have been patiently looking for the right partner in Arizona and are confident now that we have them”.
The new locations in Arizona are expected to cover the entire Phoenix Metro market, Tucson and Flagstaff. They will join the over 50 locations of Zippy Shell around the country, and strengthen the Zippy Shell presence on the West Coast.
“Zippy Shell has built a strong presence with their nationwide moving and storage network and we’re excited to be a part of it,” said Kathryn Blackwell. “We are ready to open the doors and get the word out about Zippy Shell.
